Brent Clark
He/Him
Brent is a mixed Northern European settler. He grew up in Saskatoon,Sk. and moved to the unceded Coast Salish territories known as Vancouver in 1994. Through his 23 years of experience as a Community Inclusion Facilitator and bus driver, Brent has an appreciation of some of the mobility challenges faced by differently abled people. When he is not biking, transiting or walking around, he enjoys making music and acting in local productions, and being a dad.
Caleb Haight
He/Him
Caleb’s family roots are a mixture of English, Scottish, and Czech. His ancestors crossed the Atlantic several generations ago and settled in Iowa, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. Caleb grew up on his parent’s farm near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, but he could not resist the call of the ocean and mountains and moved to the Lower Mainland in 2021 with his wife and young daughter. Caleb is an accountant for a mid-sized audit and tax firm in Vancouver, and helps a variety of organizations and family businesses meet their accounting needs. When he is not working he enjoys road cycling, hiking, gardening, going on casual family bike rides, watching movies, and cooking.
DJ Sanghera
He/Him
DJ grew up in northern BC. He recently moved back to BC from London, UK, where he was working in innovation and product strategy. DJ holds a Master’s of Art and a Master’s of Science in Innovation Design Engineering, as well as a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Mechatronics. Many years ago, DJ worked as a bicycle repair technician and also ran classes to teach others how to repair bikes. He’s inspired by how a single invention, like a bicycle, can enable and serve as the catalyst for impact bigger than its core function: empowerment, confidence, joy, community, the shape of cities, physical and mental health, and more.
Elton Battersby
He/Him
Elton is a mixed European settler. He grew up in London, Ontario and has lived in Hong Kong and Salt Lake City. He currently lives in West Vancouver. Elton’s professional background is in corporate and start up businesses, specifically in operations and financing. He volunteers with the Dugout drop in shelter and with the Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB) agency distribution program. Recently he has gotten into bike touring, exploring far flung corners of BC and places further away.
Johanna Bleecker
She/They
Johanna is a white settler with Jewish and mixed European ancestry. They grew up in San Francisco and have lived in Montreal, Hamilton, and Vancouver. Community bike shops like OCB were part of Johanna’s welcome into the cycling world, where she previously worked as a mechanic, advocate, and cycling educator. She continues to stay involved through volunteering at Kickstand, Pedals for the People build parties, and the PEDAL board. They currently work in active transportation for the provincial Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. They enjoy mountain biking, cooking and baking, and strolling around Hastings-Sunrise with their dog Millie.
Mike Coyle
He/They
Mike is a settler from South Asian and European ancestry. They grew up in Ontario, and have lived in Ottawa, Los Angeles, Santa Cruz and England. He had previously lived in Vancouver, working at a cycling accessories startup, and moved back in 2019 after working abroad. Mike’s professional background is in leading the technical and creative sides of hardware startups. He has been shifting his work to be more focused on environmental initiatives, including work in zero waste tech and sustainability infrastructure. They believe that bikes are a key element in our fight against climate change. Mike enjoys anything music or art related, particularly events that combine those with cycling.
Omar Tahmicsic
He/Him
Omar is an Eastern European settler with Bosnian ancestry. Throughout his life has had the pleasure of living in Europe, Africa, Australia, and Canada. Omar currently resides in unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Omar has become an avid cycling advocate, particularly in helping families get their children more into cycling. He brings over 3 years of experience on advisory boards, including a monumental opportunity in planning a devoted BMX cyclist cross Canada on a single-speed BMX bike. Omar has been supporting the facility planning efforts of Our Community Bikes.
Paola Delmastro
She/Her
Paola was born and raised in a very small town on the northeast of Italy and moved to unceded Coast Salish territory known as Vancouver in 2016. She currently works in the Downtown Eastside as Program Operation manager for a housing non-profit that focuses on harm reduction and housing first approaches.In her work she witnesses how housing and transportation policies impact the lives of those with fewer resources, the elderly, and people with disabilities. When she’s not working, she enjoys playing basketball, soccer and beach volleyball, reading, and exploring hiking trails with her dog, Nola.
Sarah Rocchi
She/Her
Sarah Rocchi is originally from Hamilton, Ontario and is white with mixed European ancestry. She moved to BC in her 20’s and currently lives in Burnaby. She worked for 25 years as a consultant in the field of Transportation Planning, with a focus on sustainable modes like cycling and pedestrians. Some of her professional projects include cycling policy, and cycling-oriented road safety audits. Since 2013 she has worked at TransLink as a project manager, putting transportation policy into implementation on projects such as the Evergreen Extension and the Broadway Subway. Sarah is a lifelong commuter cyclist and has recently rekindled her love for mountain biking. She also enjoys skiing, baking, walking her dog and gardening.
