Supported by generous donations, Our Community Bikes (OCB) offers low cost and free bike repair, mechanical skills training, education (and more) to empower and enable people to own and maintain a bicycle, ensuring access to vital services and opportunities.
Desire for a greener world and more active lifestyles means that local governments and sports bodies are keen to get more people cycling. However, affordability remains a persistent barrier.
OCB tackles this head on. We provide education, affordable services and equitable space regardless of perceived ability, employment status, income, race, gender, orientation or age. The goal? Increasing access to bicycles and the opportunities that affordable, independent transportation give people.
Where your donations go
Our operations rely on support from individuals and organizations, who help maintain and expand the services we offer. Donations ensure that we can continue to offer Access Nights, Youth Bike Club, Pedals for the People, mechanics courses and a range of other programs which make cycling more accessible, affordable and inclusive.
What does it cost us to deliver our services?
$432 - one refurbished bike for someone facing extreme, ongoing financial hardship
$280 - one refurbished children’s bike
$160 - year-round service subsidy for someone facing extreme, ongoing, financial hardship
$723 - one clinic in Oppenheimer Park
$800 - one access night for people underrepresented in the bike industry to gain experience working on their own bike in a supportive environment

The PEDAL Foundation is a non-profit society that supports the work of Our Community Bikes and related programming in the Vancouver area. PEDAL relies on donations from generous members of the community to help fund our programs and services. As a registered charity, we are happy to provide tax receipts for donations of $25 or more.
We also accept bicycles and bike part donations. A tax receipt may be provided for items valued at $150 or more.
Our reach continues to grow!
Donations have allowed us to reach new communities and offer new and improved services. Last year alone, Pedals for the People provided 255 bicycles and over 1350 free repairs through our Oppenheimer clinic. Our DIY Access Nights also provided space for hundreds of participants and our Gear-up program hosted over 40 trainees.
