It all comes together at our build parties!
At Our Community Bikes, we see every day how access to a bicycle can open doors — to work, to community, and to greater independence. Through our Pedals for the People program, we help make that access possible for individuals experiencing financial hardship.
With the support of our volunteers and donors, we refurbish bikes and provide essential gear like helmets, locks, and lights. We also help cover necessary repairs, ensuring each rider can get where they need to go safely and reliably. Each year, this program puts 100–200 bikes back on the road and supports thousands of dollars in repair subsidies.
We’re inviting you to be part of this work.
On April 11 from 6:30–9:30 PM, we’re hosting a Bike Build Party at the shop. This is a hands-on, community-powered evening where we come together to refurbish bikes for the Pedals for the People program and share in the laughter and learning – replacing cables, truing wheels, and more.
No prior experience is needed — whether you’re new to bike mechanics or already comfortable with tools, there’s a place for you here. Our team of instructors will be on hand to guide you, and we’ll have everything you need (plus snacks).

Pedals for the People is rooted in a simple idea: transportation should be accessible to everyone. By refurbishing donated bicycles and redistributing them within the community, we’re working to remove barriers and create more equitable access to mobility.
If you can’t make it to the Build Party, there are still plenty of ways to get involved:

- Volunteer your time in the shop
