Second Gear

Second Gear

An emerging series

Second Gear is a peer-led educational series for entry-level professionals of equity-deserving genders* in the commercial cycling world. An institutional focus on developing mechanical aptitude has left a noticeable gap in the theory behind foundational field niches. If you’ve ever contemplated the mathematics behind measurement standards, or the nuances of component compatibility, then this series is for you.

Second Gear will help fill in these gaps through peer-led discussion and collaborative resource sharing. We hope to foster a more rooted and rounded comprehension of bike world basics that will bolster personal confidence and longevity for those already within the industry.

August 18, 2024 1-3pm, doors 12:30pm: This first event will be a friendly entry-point for participants to build relationships and locate safe spaces in Vancouver where they can reconnect and build their mechanical skills and community.

*Equity-deserving genders are defined as: genders that have historically and institutionally faced barriers accessing societal resources due to oppression and prejudice.
Examples of these genders include but are not limited to: women,
2S, binary and non-binary trans people
